Government expands e-Citizen access to boost service delivery

Kenyans can now access more than 22,000 government services online, up from just 300 two years ago.

This is in line with the government’s bid to accelerate its digital transformation efforts.

According to the Governance and Public Administration Subcommittee, the remaining 2,412 services will be digitised in partnership with the e-Citizen and the Digital Economy.

The subcommittee is responsible for enhancing governance, addressing policy bottlenecks, and speeding up service delivery.

The State Department revealed that more than 13.5 million users have so far registered on the e-Citizen platform, as it looks to boost transparency and efficiency in public services.

In its latest update on reforms in parliamentary engagement, security, infrastructure, and employment, the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration announced plans to procure 3,000 vehicles under the Government Vehicle Leasing Program.

These will be allocated to the National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Prisons Service, and National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to improve logistics and service delivery.

The government also plans to introduce electric motorcycles for Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs to improve mobility and administrative presence in rural areas.

As part of its affordable housing agenda, the government says plans for relocating correctional facilities in Kitale, Kisii, and Homa Bay counties to free up land for housing projects are underway. The relocations are also aimed at decongesting existing facilities.

The State Department for Parliamentary Affairs also reported the rollout of the Legislative Tracking System (LATIS), a tool designed to monitor bills, policies, and statutory instruments in real time.

Further, the Office of the Attorney General, in collaboration with the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, has launched a Legal Case Management System, which will streamline litigation processes and provide real-time case tracking across government agencies.

Labour agreement

Additionally, the government has signed memoranda of understanding with Germany and Qatar to explore employment opportunities for qualified Kenyan workers, with more partnerships in key international markets under consideration.
