His burial took place on Wednesday, October 23, amid allegations that Super Metro, the company he worked for, mismanaged the funds collected for his funeral expenses.

In response to these claims, Super Metro’s chairman Nelson Mwangi, released a statement asserting that all contributions were given directly to Mwangi’s family.

“We want to clarify that the mother, aunt, and uncle of Gerald Mwangi came to our office and received the company’s contribution directly. Therefore, any other group formed to collect funds for the burial is not affiliated with Super Metro. While we appreciate the efforts of all those who stepped up to support the bereaved, we want to ensure the transparency of these contributions,” read the statement in part.

He indicated that they would investigate the matter to understand what occurred and ensure their employees receive the respect and recognition they deserve.

Michael Muturi, the firm’s chief inspector, in an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, refuted the allegations of mismanagement, stating he acted responsibly by distributing the collected funds to Mwangi’s wife and covering the hospital bill.

According to Muturi, the family did not acknowledge the couple’s four-year relationship and attempted to claim ownership of the funds.

Meanwhile, the widow, who requested anonymity, has distanced herself from the claims of financial misconduct made by the family.

She explained that she received KSh 63,000 prior to the burial, but Mwangi’s mother demanded the entire amount, which she subsequently handed over.

“During our meetings in Makongeni Muturi ensured that every money was accounted for before the end of the meetings. I know for sure Muturi and the treasurer cleared the remaining bill because I was there when they paid around KSh 212,000. I received KSh 63,000 which I returned back to the mother,” she said.

According to her, she felt “bad for the embarrassment they brought to his burial since he was a peaceful man”.
