Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticised the Kenya Kwanza administration for failing to deliver on promises of inclusivity and equitable development.

Speaking on Sunday, June 8, during a service at Jesus Celebration Centre in Kilifi, Gachagua said many Kenyans still wait to see the unity and transformation the government pledged during its campaign.

“I have seen in church today, claiming that he has an assignment from God to transform Kenya — that is good,” Gachagua said, adding that despite religious appeals, little has changed on the ground.

At the same time, President William Ruto spoke at the Church of Christ in Africa in Uhuru, Nairobi, affirming his focus on pushing reforms delayed for decades despite criticism from opponents.

“There might also be a lot of obstructing noises, but to me, that will not deter my commitment. I am focused. I was mandated by Kenyans, and I will ensure I see it through,” he noted.

Ruto described the affordable housing plan and universal health coverage as transformative projects long overdue.

“We have waited for these projects for over 30 years, like affordable housing and universal health coverage. This is the time to do it. And I am the person to do it. I will stamp authority to ensure it is done,” Ruto declared.

He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering key development programmes including affordable housing, the Social Health Authority and agricultural reforms, insisting political pressure will not derail his agenda.

Gachagua implied some government actions contradict stated moral and national goals.

“But the same God who has given you that assignment is the same one in the Ten Commandments who says, ‘Thou shall not kill,’” he noted.

“So let us not apply double standards. We cannot say you have a divine assignment to do one thing and also to break the Ten Commandments,” he added without naming names.
