FIFA U17 World Cup: Junior Starlets bow out in style, beat Mexico to get maiden win

Kenya can now officially state that it has won a match at a World Cup tournament after the national women’s U17 side beat Mexico on Thursday morning.

Junior Starlets thumped their North American counterparts in the dead rubber match held at the Olimpico Felix Sanchez Stadium in Santo Domingo.

Heading into the game, both teams had already been eliminated after losing their opening games to England and North Korea and were just playing for pride.

Valerie Nekesa and Lorna Faith scored one goal apiece before halftime to render Alexa Soto’s late goal a mere consolation.

The girls danced to the popular local tune Anguka Nayo as they celebrated one of their goals.

More to follow.
