Eldoret – A High Court has sentenced two convicts linked to the murder of Edward Benjamin Kiplagat, a Kenyan-born Ugandan athlete.
On Tuesday, November 5, Justice Reuben Nyakundi sentenced David Ekai Lokere and Peter Ushuru Khalumi to 35 years in prison.
In his sentence, Justice Nyakundi said the evidence, including CCTV footage, clearly implicated the two men in Kiplagat’s stabbing on December 31, 2023.
Justice Nyakundi noted that this was the men’s first offence but highlighted the strong evidence from the prosecution that established their involvement in the athlete’s murder.
Kiplagat’s family, led by his mother, Elizabeth Chemweno, has pleaded for a life sentence, but the judge stated that 35 years was appropriate.
