EACC arrests two over bribery at Mumias Level 4 Hospital

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two suspects in connection with a Sh200,000 bribery case at Mumias Level 4 Hospital.

The two are accused of soliciting and receiving a bribe to facilitate payment for medical equipment lawfully supplied to the hospital.

According to the commission, the complainant had supplied the hospital with an X-ray scanner worth Sh1.4 million.

The hospital agreed to pay in three instalments, and had already settled the first instalment of Sh500,000 on April 17, 2025.

However, on May 8, the complainant was contacted by hospital staff, who allegedly demanded a Sh400,000 bribe to release the second instalment of Sh650,000.

The next day, the complainant met with the officials, who reiterated the demand.

Although the hospital deposited the second instalment into the supplier’s account, access to the funds was restricted, and the complainant continued receiving demands for the bribe before the payment could be accessed.

Following a report, EACC officers arrested the two suspects at KCB Mumias branch on May 21.

The two suspects have been taken to the EACC’s offices in Bungoma for processing and later booked at Bungoma Police Station pending further investigations.
