Drama outside Milimani Law Court as EACC officers arrest three men linked to Governor Natembeya

There was drama outside the  Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Monday morning after plainclothes officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), wearing masks, arrested three men who had accompanied Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya during the mention of his Sh3 million graft case.

The arrests occurred shortly after Governor Natembeya exited the court premises, surrounded by a large crowd.

According to eyewitnesses, the three individuals were apprehended by EACC officers who had been stationed at the court from as early as 8 a.m., waiting to strike.

The arrests were executed separately, with the suspects swiftly bundled into waiting Subaru Outback vehicles parked outside the court premises.

The incident sparked immediate protests from a group of lawyers and political leaders, including Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Senator Dan Maanzo, and prominent lawyer Njiru Ndegwa.

The group condemned the EACC’s actions, terming the arrests unlawful and lacking transparency regarding the alleged offences.

In a dramatic twist, one of the targeted individuals managed to evade arrest after a lawyer intervened.

The man fled back into the court premises, escaping the officers’ grip.

The motive behind the arrests remains unclear, and the EACC has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
