Police in Trans Nzoia have arrested a suspect in connection with a spate of robberies in the region.
The suspect was apprehended during a raid in Tuwan area Trans Nzoia County, where officers uncovered a cache of illegal items linked to organised crime.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was arrested during a meticulously coordinated raid in the Tuwan area. Authorities say the operation, conducted after days of intelligence gathering and covert surveillance, led to the discovery of a disturbing cache of illegal items.
According to Trans Nzoia West Sub-County Police Commander Erick Ng’etich, the suspect was found in possession of five homemade firearms, 40 rolls of bhang, various unknown chemicals and equipment suspected to be used in the production of counterfeit currency.
“This is a major breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal gangs in the region. We are committed to ensuring that those engaging in such illegal activities are brought to book,” said Ng’etich during a press briefing at the Matisi police station on Monday.
Ng’etich confirmed that the suspect is believed to be part of a wider and highly coordinated criminal network involved in narcotics distribution and the manufacture of fake money, which has been circulating within Trans Nzoia and neighboring counties.
The raid comes amid growing public concern over rising crime rates in the region. Over the past year alone, at least 12 suspects linked to similar criminal enterprises have been arrested and charged, signaling what police describe as a “surge in organized criminal activity.”
“We are not relenting. This arrest sends a strong message to those involved in crime: we are watching, and we will catch up with you.” Ng’etich added. Residents, who have lived in fear due to recent robberies, have welcomed the arrest as a step in the right direction.
