Calls for peace and unity dominate prayer breakfast

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has called on religious leaders to take an active role in fostering peace and unity across the country.
Speaking at the 22nd  National Prayer Breakfast held Wednesday, May 28, Wetangula noted the important role of the clergy in reconciliation efforts, especially as the country faces a difficult time.
“Our religious leaders must be at the forefront in advocating for peace. The Church and other faith-based institutions are vital pillars in promoting dialogue and reconciliation,” said Wetangula.
He also cautioned political and national leaders against allowing personal ambition to override the interests of the country.
“We must rise above self-interest. The responsibility of rebuilding the nation falls on all of us, not just the government,” he added.
“We are steadily navigating complex socio-economic dynamics while working to ease the cost of living, manage debt responsibly, and create opportunities for our youths.”
The annual event has brought together leaders from various political, religious, and civic backgrounds to reflect on national unity, reconciliation, and shared responsibility.
This year’s theme is “Rise and Rebuild.”
