The accused, who works for a microfinance company in Mumias, allegedly pocketed funds meant for the burial of Ephraim Juma’s father.
Juma recently lost both his father and cousin within days of each other, with the father’s burial taking place on Wednesday in Bungoma.

In the wake of this tragedy, the class came together to offer their financial support.
“We were a united class,” one alumnus told TUKO.co.ke. “Even after Form 4, we stayed close and formed a WhatsApp group.”
The source added that they even added their class teacher, Mr Wordsworth Mwasame Mutanda, because he was more like a friend to them.
Tragically, the group lost their beloved teacher in a road accident on March 4 this year.
In his honour, the class added his widow, Mrs Mutanda, to the WhatsApp group to remain in touch with her and continue her husband’s legacy.
However, recent events have shaken this solidarity.
According to the group, tensions between James and other alumni began earlier when James himself lost a relative.
At that time, a group member allegedly mishandled the contributions made for James, leading to lingering frustrations.

The group now believes that James’s actions were an act of revenge after he allegedly took the funds collected for Ephraim’s family.
When TUKO.co.ke reached out to James to get his side of the story, he became defensive and dismissive.
“Whatever it is that you were told happened, should I send you a photo of me or you got that handled? Don’t be so naïve. Silly,” he responded.
James further stated that writing a story about him would only make him famous, sarcastically offering to send his photo for publication.
The incident has left the friends feeling betrayed, especially as it unfolded before Mrs Mutanda, who actively participates in their WhatsApp group.
What was once a strong bond of friendship has now been tainted by accusations of dishonesty, shaking the unity the group had cultivated since their school days.
The alumni association is reportedly working to resolve the matter internally, though the emotional toll is apparent among the group members who had once considered each other as family.
