Bomet – Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspect linked to the death of the 22-year-old Amos Sanga.
In a statement on Tuesday, November 5, DCI identified the suspect as Robert Cheruiyot, who was captured in a viral video assaulting Sang.
“Robert Cheruiyot, whose brutal actions were captured in a video that went viral on social media on October 31 is currently in custody at Ruaraka Police Station while his accomplice is detained at Longisa Police Station as detectives intensify investigations,” DCI said.
The distressing sequence of events began when Cheruiyot reportedly arrived at Sang’s residence in Teduet village, located in the Chemaner area of Bomet County, accusing him of stealing his chicken.

Cheruiyot forcibly took Sang, and the accusations escalated into what has been described as severe assault.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Sang was hanged using a chain attached to a pulley, a horrifying scene that left him unconscious. Cheruiyot then allegedly returned the victim to his home in that state.

According to the DCI statement, Sang succumbed to injuries at the Longisa Referral Hospital.
“Tragically, the victim succumbed to the torture. This was confirmed at Longisa Referral Hospital where his body is currently preserved at the facility’s Morgue, awaiting post-mortem examination,” the statement added.
Investigators conducted a thorough search at Cheruiyot’s residence, where they recovered crucial evidence, including a pulley and a chain believed to have been used in the assault.
“An empty jerrycan believed to have contained diesel, which was reportedly used during the torture was also recovered. At the victim’s residence, clothing soaked in diesel were also found further implicating the suspects,” DCI stated.
