Nairobi – In a setback for President William Ruto’s administration, the High Court has halted the government’s plans to sign a KSh 95.5 billion deal with Adani Solutions Limited for the construction of crucial electricity transmission lines.
The agreement, which had been negotiated between Adani and the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO), would have allowed the Indian conglomerate to operate four electricity transmission lines and two substations across Kenya.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye issued the ruling on Friday, October 25, after considering the merits of the case presented by the petitioner.
“Pending the inter partes hearing and determination of the Application dated 23/10/2024, a conservatory order be and is hereby issued suspending the implementation of any Project Agreement between the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Respondents jointly and severally and the 2nd Respondent and/or any of its related companies and entities with regard to development of transmission lines, substations, or any other electrical power infrastructure,” Mwamuye stated.
