For the first time in its 47-year history, Makini Schools hosted the inaugural Makini Alumni Reconnect, which brought together former students from across generations. The gathering provided an opportunity for alumni to rekindle old friendships, engage with faculty and students, and reimagine their role in shaping the future of their alma mater.
The event, held at Makini Schools, marked the beginning of a new tradition – one that cements the school’s legacy as an institution that not only imparts education but also nurtures lifelong bonds and lasting impact.
Mr Horace Mpanza, Regional Managing Director at Makini Schools, honoured the alumni, commending their remarkable contributions across diverse industries. He underscored education’s pivotal role in driving both personal achievement and societal progress, particularly within Africa’s rapidly evolving economic landscape stating:
He said that education is a catalyst for economic transformation and social mobility. “In Sub-Saharan Africa, we are witnessing an unprecedented population boom, projected to increase by 52-62% in the coming decades. This growth presents both challenges and opportunities, with education standing at the core of sustainable development,” said Mr Mpanza. “By equipping young minds with knowledge, critical thinking, and innovation, we empower future generations to drive economic progress and solve pressing global challenges.”

He said every alumni has the responsibility of contributing through mentorship, investment, or advocacy to ensure that education remains a pillar of progress. “The strength of a school is not just in its past but in the collective efforts of those who continue to support its vision,” he said.
Immaculate Musambai, Career Guidance Officer at Makini Schools, reflected on the profound impact of the institution.
“This is not just a reunion – it is a homecoming,” said Ms Musambai. “Makini Schools has not only provided education but has also built character, forged lifelong friendships, and shaped leaders who are now making a difference across various industries. For the first time in nearly half a century, decades of untold stories, unrealised connections, and untapped potential are coming together. Today is the day your past, present, and future collide, and you are part of the change you have been waiting for.”
The event saw a diverse representation of alumni from various professional fields, including law, medicine, software engineering, business, education, marketing, IT, and aviation, among others. Their presence highlighted the rich and influential legacy of Makini Schools in shaping leaders across industries.
The Makini Alumni Reconnect event is set to become a cornerstone in strengthening the alumni network, fostering mentorship, and ensuring continued engagement in the school’s journey of excellence.
