Vivian Amusala emerged the overall winner of the KenGen golf tournament played on Saturday at Nyanza Golf Club in Kisumu, after carding an impressive 38 points to top a highly competitive field.
Amusala’s stellar performance saw her outplay a strong roster of golfers across various categories, with her consistency on the greens and fairways sealing her the coveted top prize.
Speaking after her triumph, an elated Amusala said: “This win means a lot to me. The course was challenging but I stayed focused, kept my swings disciplined, and I’m proud that all the hard work paid off. I thank the club for a fantastic event and KenGen for their continued support of golf.”
In Division One, Jiten Pabari produced a solid round of 35 points to claim the winner’s spot, edging out Tom Agumbi (33 points) and Nishal Shah (32 points) who finished as first and second runners-up respectively.
The Division Two category witnessed a tight contest, with H. Ikhohoro carding 37 points to secure the win.
- Muhando and Lusi Ojwang, both with 37 points as well, followed closely in second and third place, separated only by countback.
In Division Three, Emmah Rumo and Bellice Rabach matched each other with 39 points apiece — the highest points of the day across all categories — underlining the depth of talent in the division.
Victor Odendo claimed the Guest Winner prize with 28 points, while rising stars Tonny Nyambogo and Joseph Chege impressed in the Junior category, posting 36 and 35 points.
The Senior Winner’s accolade went to Prof. Herrick Othieno, who posted 32 points to secure the title.
Nyanza Golf Club captain Griffin Owino lauded the players, noting the club’s commitment to nurturing competitive golf in the region.
“This tournament showed how much talent we have at Nyanza. Vivian was outstanding, and the tight margins in every division prove how vibrant golf is becoming here,” Owino said.
