Police have denied holding X influencer Ndiangui Kinyagia who has been missing for ten days.

Kinyagia’s whereabouts have remained a mystery after he published a program for Wednesday, June 25, protests that included events interpreted as calling for a regime change.

Speaking to journalists, DCI boss Mohamed Amin confirmed that Kinyagia is a person of interest in an ongoing investigation into the viral social media post.

However, Amin says the advocate was not at home when detectives raided his residence last week and has urged him to surrender himself to the authorities.

“I confirm to Kenyans that Ndiangui is not in custody of the National Police Service,” said Amin, adding, “He is a person of interest to us and wherever he is, I urge that he submits himself and that he surrenders himself to the nearest police station.”

The law enforcers have also confirmed conducting a search at Ndiangui’s Kinoo residence, an activity they say was witnessed by the building’s caretaker.

“Ndiangui Kinyagia was a person of interest to us, after publishing very inflammatory material on social media. We profiled him, identified his residence, and our officers conducted a search at his apartment in Kinoo. Unfortunately he was not in his apartment,” Amin narrated.

“But, we were able to recover an assortment of electronic gadgets that we believe will be useful in our investigations. We did an inventory which was countersigned by the caretaker of the apartment,” he added.

Earlier today, the High Court directed the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI boss Mohamed Amin to produce Kinyagia or appear before the court tomorrow, July 1.

Kinyagia’s family, and Kenyans, have mounted pressure on the government to release the man or arraign him.

According to the Law Society of Kenya, Kinyagia made his last communication to his family on Saturday, June 21, at around 1 pm.
