Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and Ainamoi MP Benjamin Langat have called for the disbandment of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

The two leaders also demanded the resignation of NCIC Chairman Samuel Kobia, citing alleged complacency in addressing hate speech and fostering national unity.

Speaking during the commissioning of refurbished classrooms at Torsogek Primary School in Ainamoi Constituency, Cheruiyot and Langat expressed dissatisfaction with NCIC’s performance.

They accused the commission of allegedly abdicating its responsibilities while enjoying public resources without tangible results.

Cheruiyot called out the commission for silence as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies continue to attack President William Ruto.

“NCIC must be disbanded. It has outlived its usefulness. The tribal and divisive rhetoric we are witnessing would not happen if we had a functional commission. Dr Kobia and his team must pack up and go. Their silence under the Ruto administration is unacceptable, unlike during the previous regime, when they actively targeted leaders like us for statements such as hatupangwingwi,” he said.

The Kericho Senator further urged churches to promote tolerance and shun divisive politics.

Langat criticized NCIC for failing to address inflammatory remarks by Gachagua and accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of allegedly being responsible for the challenges facing the country, saying President Ruto is working to clean up the mess he left behind.

“Some people are speaking as if President Ruto created the problems Kenyans are facing. On the contrary, he is working tirelessly to resolve the issues inherited from his predecessor,” he said.

The Ainamoi MP further called on Uhuru to emulate other retired presidents by exiting the political scene.

“Enjoy your retirement and let the government work. It’s time to move on,” said Langat.
