US – Former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump has been declared the winner of the highly contested 2024 election.

Held on Tuesday, November 5, the election saw Trump secure crucial victories in key states, edging out Vice President Kamala Harris, who closely trailed behind.

Following his win, numerous leaders who had closely followed the election process extended their congratulations to Trump, with several expressing optimism about America’s future under his leadership.

The outcome marks a significant political moment, as Trump prepares to take office once again amid high expectations from his supporters and cautious anticipation nationwide.

Which leaders congratulated Donald Trump?

1. William Ruto

President William Ruto, on behalf of the country, has congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory. He expressed hope that Trump’s leadership will bring progress and unity to the US.

Ruto also emphasised that Kenya is eager to strengthen cooperation with the US in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, technology, innovation, peace and security, and sustainable development.

“On behalf of the government and the people of the Republic of Kenya and my own behalf, I convey to Your Excellency, my warmest congratulations on your election as the 47th President of the United States of America.

Your victory is a testament to the firm resolve of the American people to repose confidence in your visionary, bold and innovative leadership. May your tenure bring continued progress and unity to the United States of America and strengthen the bonds between our two great nations,” he said.

2. Rigathi Gachagua

The former deputy president remarked that Trump has achieved a remarkable political comeback. He commended Trump’s resilience, noting how it enabled him to overcome obstacles on his path to fulfilling his destiny.

“Congratulations President Donald Trump, for one of the greatest political come-backs of our generation. Your victory is clear proof that resilience and a never-say-die attitude will always trump obstacles on the path to your destiny. God bless you. God bless America,” he said.

3. Kalonzo Musyoka

In his congratulatory message, the Wiper Party leader reminded Trump of the factors behind his historic win. He also called on the IEBC to follow the US example and ensure a credible election process.

“I extend my congratulations to President-Elect Donald Trump on your election as the 47th President of the United States of America. Americans have placed their trust in your ideas and leadership, as evidenced by the outcomes of the electoral college and popular vote. Over 150 million Americans voted in the historic November 5 election, and their votes were counted, tallied and announced in less than 24 hours.

I believe Kenya, and in particular the @IEBCKenya can learn from the United States about how to conduct a free, fair, and credible election. I wish you every success and look forward to working with you,” he said.

4. Ndindi Nyoro

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro argued that Trump’s policies will consistently benefit Africa, asserting that the global economy will improve with the anticipated monetary easing.

“Congratulations President Donald Trump, the 45th & 47th. Republican policies have always been better for Africa & the Global South. The Global Economy will be better with imminent monetary easing under Trump. Hongera USA. We are African and Africa is our business,” he stated.

5. Oscar Sudi

The Kapseret lawmaker, while congratulating the president-elect, drew a comparison between him and Trump, stating that both prioritise development over empty promises.

“Congratulations, President Donald Trump, on your resounding victory. Mtu wa mawaya kama mimi who prefers actions over words, not just grandiose speeches filled with empty rhetoric.”

6. Senator Samson Cherargei

The Nandi Senator stopped short of directly congratulating the U.S. president-elect but expressed joy over his victory.

Cherargei likened Trump’s win to that of the Kenya Kwanza administration. He also expressed optimism that LGBTQ+ policies, already approved in some African countries, would be reversed under Trump’s leadership.

“Trump defeating the incumbent VP Harris government project is a textbook plan that H.E. Ruto used in 2022 to defeat the Uhuru government-backed project in the name of Raila Odinga. Nothing new about it! Trump will be remembered for denying the USA a female president twice. End of LBTQ policies across the world especially in Africa. God is great. MAGA,” he said.

7. Kimani Wamatangi

The Kiambu governor urged Trump to make America great again just as he works to transform his county.

“Congratulations, President Donald J. Trump. Make America great again, just as we are making Kiambu great again,” he said.
