Kiambu County Government is offering free training to all its ECDE teachers to ensure they achieve the required diploma level.
According to Governor Kimani Wamatangi, the county will also provide retraining to equip teachers with essential skills to meet the demands of the modern generation.
“Starting this month, ECDE teachers who were hired without the necessary qualifications are being enrolled in diploma courses at no cost. We will cover their fees to ensure that all our nursery school teachers hold at least a diploma,” Wamatangi said.

The Governor noted that the county aims to raise education standards across all Kiambu ECDEs by retraining existing teachers and hiring more qualified instructors.
“We have organised capacity-building sessions for all teachers in preparation for the coming year. We are moving forward with full momentum to make our ECDE sector thrive,” he added.

The training initiative follows the Governor’s launch of a comprehensive program to upgrade the infrastructure of ECDE centres across the county.
Last month, Governor Wamatangi inaugurated 109 new, identical ECDE centres, with an additional 130 centres under construction and expected to be ready by December.
These fully equipped nursery centres include PP1 and PP2 classrooms, offices, washrooms and well-equipped play areas.
The county also provides a feeding program, offering each child a daily serving of fortified porridge, a boiled egg and a packet of milk.
