Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has penned an open letter urging President William Ruto to cut short his trip to Burundi and return to Kenya.
Ruto departed the country on Thursday, October 31, to attend the COMESA summit, aiming to rally support for Raila Odinga’s AUC bid, among other objectives.
Why does Didmus Barasa want Ruto to return?
In a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa told the president that Kithure Kindiki needs to be sworn in to enable him to step into the presidential role during Ruto’s absence.
“William Samoei Ruto, our beloved President, allow me to address you, your excellency sir, with the pronouncement by the three-judge bench that the deputy President assumes your functions as president when you aren’t around, and in recognising that Kithure Kindiki cannot assume those functions because he has not taken the oath of office,” Barasa’s statement read in part.

He added that, with no sworn-in deputy president in place, the president should return to the country to preside over Kindiki’s swearing-in ceremony.
“Please could you respectfully get on your plane and return to the country, performing one more important function: modifying the swearing-in of your deputy President to avert any further constitutional crisis,” he added.
