Why did Havi criticise Ruto-Raila pact?

According to Havi, the Ruto-Raila alliance blurs the lines between opposition and government, weakening Kenya’s democratic structure and potentially harming national unity.

The lawyer warned that, if unchecked, the alliance could pose significant risks to the nation’s political stability.

“These two individuals have decided to crossbreed a horse and a donkey. it is the end of a generation. It is spurious. This arrangement cannot be explained because we do not even have a document. It won’t be even entertained in a court of law or even in a village baraza. What you guys have done is that you’ve blurred the distinction between the opposition and the government,” he said.

Havi contrasted this alliance with the earlier partnership between former president Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila, which he described as a united effort pulling in one direction for the country’s benefit.

He further noted concerns over the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua as the deputy president, which he believes could isolate Gachagua’s political base and increase division.

“The result is, that we will not have unity because you cannot create unity by isolating a block associated with Rigathi Gachagua and incorporating a block associated with Raila. It is as simple as that and it will be perilous,” Havi explained.as

Why did Rigathi Gachagua move to court?

Havi argued that Gachagua’s decision not to go to court wasn’t about securing the deputy president’s position.

Instead, he claimed the former Mathira MP aimed to contest the way his impeachment was handled.

Havi added that Gachagua would step down if the court overturned his impeachment or escalated the case to the Supreme Court.
