The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has reported the arrest of two officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The two officers, identified as Joseph Ngera Kamau and Fred Mathenge Kanja, were arrested in connection with the brutal murder of 26-year-old University of Nairobi student Mercy Rufani Kwamboka.
“The suspects, Joseph Ngera Kamau and Fred Mathenge Kanja, Kenya Army officers based in Embakasi, were the last known individuals to have been in contact with Mercy. They were arrested after her body was discovered dumped in the Mwiki area along the Eastern Bypass,” DCI statement read in part.
How was Kwamboka killed?
According to a statement from the DCI, investigators found that Joseph Ngera allegedly picked up Kwamboka from her home in his Mazda car on the night she went missing.

The investigative unit stated that they drove to Ngera’s home in Komarock. However, upon arrival, a misunderstanding occurred, leading to a confrontation in which Ngera assaulted Mercy, resulting in her death.
“While at the parking lot, a misunderstanding ensued, leading to a confrontation in which Kamau assaulted Mercy, resulting in her death. Kamau then called his accomplice, Kanja, to help him dispose of the body.” DCI statement further stated.
Following forensic leads, detectives located Kamau and Kanja in their hideouts in Komarock Estate and the Tononoka area in Embakasi, respectively. The two are currently in custody at Kasarani Police Station.
When was Kwamboka reported missing?
The DCI further reported that investigations revealed Kwamboka was last seen at her parents’ home in Pipeline, Embakasi, on September 28.
The investigative unit stated that the search for her became a tragic saga, resulting in the discovery of her lifeless body.

Kwamboka’s body was discovered dumped in Mwiki along the Eastern Bypass. She was wearing her only her undergarments, and a black blouse, a blanket, and her mobile phone were found beside her.
