What Agnene Kagure said about femicide in Kenya
In a statement on Wednesday, October 23, Kagure termed the increase in killings targeting women as a national emergency that cannot be overlooked.

Kagure argued that any act of violence targeting women is an affront to human rights and that measures should be put in place to ensure safety for all Kenyans, including women.
“The rise in gender-based violence and femicide is a national emergency that we cannot afford to treat as another unfortunate incident, nor can we overlook.
“Any act of violence to any person is a violation of human rights and dignity, and any deliberate acts of violence targeting women is an affront both to human rights and dignity and to the steps we have taken to ensure that Kenya is a safe haven for all – women included,” Kagure said.
According to Kagure, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) instils fear and limits opportunities for women to grow and succeed in life.
Agnes Kagure’s advice over GBV
Kagure, who was an aspirant for the Nairobi gubernatorial elections in 2022, urged Kenyans to speak out against any form of GBV, arguing that silence is not an option.

“Each case of gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide threatens to undo all this good work by instilling fear and limiting the opportunities for women to grow and succeed. One life is too many to lose, and in the mission to end GBV and femicide, gender divisions, silence, and inaction are not options and have never been. Let us do all we can to ensure that Kenya is a safe place for everyone – our daughters, sisters, wives, and mothers included,” she added.
Through the Agnes Kagure Foundation, the businesswoman disclosed that she had made significant strides in supporting women with specialized skills training, economic empowerment projects, mental health support, and mentorship to help them break free from cycles of abuse and chains of poverty.
