A Kahawa West tenant has sadly narrated how her family ended up without anything after the ill-fated building collapsed.
On Sunday, October 20, a chilling video emerged capturing the terrifying moment the building collapsed. In the clip, the seven-storey apartment’s terrifying final moments were captured as it caved in and tumbled to the ground.
Many people were seen running for their lives amid screams and a lot of confusion.

Were residents of Kahawa West building warned?
According to the tenant, they had been told to go and look for other houses as the one they were living in had to be renovated. Meanwhile, the caretaker asserted that an engineer had declared the building safe.

“I had first left after we were told to evacuate. I finally found a house and I came to pick my house furniture yesterday in the morning Sunday, November 20, 2024,” she said sadly.
“But the moment we arrived, the house came down as we watched; we couldn’t save our things. Our kids have nothing and we also lost all our documents,” she added.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, a resident of the area identified as Elsie Imbwaga shared that people had been talking about the building in hushed tones as there were rumours that it may collapse because of cracks.

“We heard about the building and that people were being told to move. Only e a few minutes later as we were coming from church I heard screams and when we rushed there we saw the building coming down,” she said.
What was wrong with the Kahawa West building?
Another tenant had previously shared that the front part of the building was very beautiful, and they never used the back door. That, therefore, prevented them from knowing there were cracks in the basement.
She also claimed that they could not have seen the cracks as they would be carefully hidden and they never suspected the grave danger that had been staring at them for some time.
Several people feared dead
On Sunday, October 20, the Kenya Red Cross was among the first to respond to the site after the building collapsed and helped conduct a spirited rescue mission.

During the rescue mission, the humanitarian body said that some families could be trapped inside.
A video emerged showing the residents warning those near there to move away moments before it came down amid screams.
