EPRA Reduces Petrol, Diesel, Kerosine Prices in October Review

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced new fuel prices in the latest review.

On Monday, October 14, EPRA lowered the prices of super petrol and diesel after maintaining them for the previous two months.

EPRA announced that super petrol prices have dropped by KSh 8.18 to sell at KSh 180.66 per litre. It was previously sold at KSh 188.84.

The authority also reduced diesel prices from KSh 171.6 to KSh 168.06 a difference of KSh 3.54.

“Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will now retail at Kshs.180.66, Kshs.168.06 and Kshs.151.39 respectively in Nairobi starting midnight,” EPRA said.

Kerosine prices also fell from KSh 158.32 to KSh 151.39, a drop of KSh 6.93.

The energy regulator said that the prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, and the Tax Laws Amendment Act of 2020.

EPRA explained that the landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreased substantially, by a massive 8.59%, from USD697.62 (about KSh 90,000) per cubic metre in August to USD637.70 about KSh 82,000 per cubic metre in September 2024. The diesel in the country also fell by 5.52%.

Previous fuel prices

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that in September 2024, kerosene price dropped by KSh 3.43 to retail at KSh 158.32, with diesel and petrol remaining unchanged to retail at KSh 188.84 and KSh 171.60, respectively.

Notably, the fuel prices for August remained unchanged and continued as they were in July.

EPRA had revised pump prices for July 2024 and reduced the cost of a litre of super petrol from the review in June by KSh 1, diesel by KSh 1.5 and kerosene by KSh 1.3.

In June, super petrol, diesel and kerosene retailed at KSh 189.84, KSh 173.10 and KSh 163.05, respectively, in Nairobi.
