The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reallocated ten vacant seats, one in the National Assembly and nine in various County Assemblies, following declarations of vacancies by the respective Speakers.
In accordance with Article 90 of the Constitution of Kenya and Section 37(1) of the Elections Act, Cap 7, the Commission says it carried out the process based on the priority in which nominees were listed by their respective political parties, as submitted during the 2022 General Election.
“In line with this mandate, the Commission has re-allocated one (1) special seat in the National Assembly and nine (9) special seats in various County Assemblies, following declarations of vacancies by the respective Speakers.”
Among those nominated is Harold Kimuge Kipchumba, who will replace John Mbadi in the National Assembly. Mbadi was appointed Treasury Cabinet Secretary.
Others include Dubat Adan, nominated to replace Abdi Adow in the Garissa County Assembly; Chege Nduta in Kirinyaga; Esther Mwongeli in Makueni; and Ann Mukuru in Taita Taveta.
The vacancies arose due to the resignation or death of former members.
