What was Njagi’s experience during abduction

Speaking to the media on Thursday, October 9, the activist claimed security officers specifically targeted him for his role in leading anti-government protests.

Njagi said his most recent abduction occurred after spending an afternoon at Kamukunji police station with Jimi Wanjigi’s family and their lawyer following Wanjigi’s arrest on August 18.

Njagi said he boarded a matatu to Kitengela, but his journey was abruptly interrupted when four masked individuals entered the vehicle and whisked him away.

“They shoved me out of the bus while assaulting me with kicks, blows, slaps and carried me into the waiting car, “Njagi said.

Njagi said he was forcefully pushed into a car with five people who assaulted him throughout the journey.

They later blindfolded him and transferred him to another vehicle, which drove him to an undisclosed location.

“32 days of terror. I was whisked away into a building and ushered into a small and dark room. I was left on the floor and handcuffed at the back and left for two days without food, only some water,” he added.

The activist added that on the third day, his captors moved him to another room, where they adjusted his handcuffs from behind to the front. The room had a mattress and a blanket, and he was held there for 30 days.

“My health depreciated, as I lost a lot of weight. One a week I would be led into a room where I would shower before returning into my cell,” he further stated.

How was Njagi freed from custody?

On September, two men entered Njagi’s cell and told him to get up and get dressed. They then took him to a vehicle, removed his handcuffs, and informed him that he would be released.

Njagi said they gave him KSh 400 for bus fare before removing him from the car. He added that he eventually made his way to Tigoni Police Station, where he reported the incident.

That same day, 42-year-old Longton Jamil, his brother Aslam Longton, 36, and FreeKenya Movement coordinator Bob Njagi were also released from custody.
