The court has ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to present two former allies of ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Peter Wanjiru, alias Kawanjiru, and Serah Thiga, before the Kahawa Law Courts on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m for plea taking on terrorism-related charges.

The plea taking, initially scheduled for Monday, was postponed due to the ongoing Saba Saba protests.

The court has also granted their defence team, led by Senior Counsel Kalonzo Musyoka and advocate Andrew Muge, access to the duo at their respective places of detention ahead of their arraignment on Tuesday.

Kawanjiru is currently being held at Ruaraka Police Station, while Thiga is detained at Capitol Hill Police Station.

The two are alleged to have been involved in the extensive destruction of government offices in Kikuyu.

Thiga was rearrested on Friday under unclear circumstances, just moments after being granted bail by the Kiambu Law Courts.

According to her brother Simon Mwangi, Wanjiku was re-arrested at the Kiambu Police Station, immediately after she had secured her release on a cash bail.

“After the verdict had been read and she was supposed to be released on cash bail, we were told the systems were down and an invoice could not be generated,” said Mwangi.

The family, he said, waited for hours until around 3:30pm when the payment was finally processed and the bail cleared. But instead of walking free, Wanjiku was taken away from the police station’s backdoor.

“She had not even come out of the Kiambu Police Station. She was taken through the backdoor. We were told it was the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who had taken her,” he said.

Wanjiku’s ordeal began when she was arrested last Tuesday at Kamakis off the Eastern Bypass. She was taken to Ruiru Police Station where she spent the night, before she was transferred to Kiambu Police Station the following morning.
