Nairobi – Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has issued a directive suspending all travel outside the country by senators during Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment trial.
The directive, dated Tuesday, October 8, 2024, reflects the significance of the historic trial, which has captured the attention of the nation.

In a communique addressed to senators, Kingi stressed the importance of remaining fully engaged in the legislative process.
Kingi stated that the directive also extends to Senate committees, which have been instructed to suspend any activities outside Nairobi until Saturday, October 19, 2024.
“To this end, all travel by Honourable Senators and members of staff in the Senate outside the Country have forthwith been put on hold. I also urge Committees to put on hold activities outside Nairobi, effective today, Tuesday, 8th October, 2024 until, Saturday, 19th October, 2024,” reads the letter seen by TUKO.co.ke.

Kingi’s decision to halt all travel highlights the Senate’s need for a unified and undistracted presence during the trial.
He explained that the move would ensure that all senators would be available for any decisions or votes related to the proceedings.

“As you are aware, the Senate has substantive upcoming business for consideration in the coming days. Given the gravity of these matters, it is paramount that we maintain a focused presence in the Senate.
