Timau Stores challenge Cup opens up the season

With the horses having had enough rest for the past three and half months, action moves to Timau Sports Club for the Timau Stores Challenge Cup.

This is a three-day-event that starts with the round-robin matches on the first day ahead of the knockouts on the second and final days.

Being the season opener, every rider will be keen to make a positive start ahead of international assignments that begin next month.

A total of 20 players divided into five teams are competing in the tournament, the first division of the tournament for the senior players.

Top seeds Casimir Gross, Raph Nzomo, Gonzalo De Ciurcio, Craig Millar Archie Voorspuy and Joss Craig lead their respective teams in the battle to scoop the first competition of the season.

However, Casimir and Nzomo will play for Redigo Deter alongside Simon Muchene and Abba Heffron in their first match against Prosaro team of Joss Craig, Tarquin Gross, Lochy Murray and Sacha Gross.

While teaming up with upcoming Mike Mwirigi, in-form Hiromi Nzomo and Will Millar, international Archie Voorspuy should see Skyway Xpro effectively overcome Round-Up Turbo, which is equally a formidable side.

Mwirigi is expected to make good use of his favourite pony Lalula.

“When I’m on this pony (Lalula), it’s my Mercedes Benz. I feel like as if I’m inside the German Machine that gives me the best ride,” Mwirigi told Standard Sports.

Round-Up Turbo are led by Craig Millar, Geoff Morley, Harry Griffiths and Isaac Maina.

The first match of the day pits Infinito against Prosaro at 2pm before the former takes on Redigo Deter in her second match.

Thereafter, Redigo Deter face Prosaro in the second match ahead of the Skyway Pro Vs Roundup Turbo tie, which is the last round-robin match before the tournament gets to the knockout stages.
