Parliament to vet IEBC nominees from May 27

The National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs is set to begin the vetting process for Erastus Ethekon and six other nominees to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on May 27.

This vetting follows President William Ruto’s nomination and submission of their names to Parliament for approval.

In a statement, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula stated that the process will commence immediately after the House resumes.

“The Committee is expected to immediately commence the approval process and, thereafter, table its Report,” read the statement.

The Clerk of the National Assembly has been directed to notify all members and facilitate the committee’s approval hearings as per the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act.

The House is expected to consider the report within the statutory timeline of 28 days.

Other nominees to be vetted include Ann Njeri Nderitu, Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan, Francis Odhiambo Aduol, and Fahima Araphat Abdalla.
