Nairobi: 39-Year-Old ‘Witchdoctor’ Accused of Conning Pastor KSh 700k Arraigned

Nairobi – A 39-year-old woman accused of conning a Nairobi pastor KSh 700,000 has been arraigned in court.

The accused, Anastachiah Wanjiru Chege, is alleged to have obtained the money from the man of God while pretending that she had dark powers that could help him settle his debts.

Wanjiru was presented before Milimani Principal Magistrate Susan Shitubi.

How Nairobi pastor was conned by mganga

Court documents seen by TUKO.co.ke show that the woman who works as a bartender received by false pretence KSh 756,977 from Mark Ndinyo Khamala, a pastor at Grace Community Bible Church in Roasters, along Thika Road.

She is facing charges of conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretences.

“…on diverse dates between 23rd September 2023 and 22nd January 2024 at Nairobi, within Nairobi County, jointly with others not before this court, conspired to defraud Mark Ndinyo Khamala a sum of KSh 756,777 in pretense that were a witchdoctor and had powers of enabling him sort out his financial debt, a fact you knew false.” read part of the charge seen by TUKO.co.ke.

The accused denied the charges against her and was released on a cash bail of KSh 100,000 with a surety of the same amount or a bond of Kshs 200,000.

This was despite the state putting put up a spirited defence to have her denied bail. It argued that she was a flight risk.

The prosecution told the court that other suspects in the case are still at large.

However, the trial court, in releasing her on bail, directed that she be presenting herself to the police every Friday.

KRA responds to mganga offering tax exemption services

TUKO.co.ke previously reported that a poster doing rounds on X caught the Kenya Revenue Authority’s attention.

The paper on a pole advertised the services of a self-proclaimed witch doctor going by Dr Njoroge.

The poster also listed some of the services Njoroge offers to clients which included tax exemption services. The photo caught the taxman’s attention, and they reacted by making fun of it.
