The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now says it has leads on potential suspects in the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament Ong’ondo Were.
The MP was shot dead Wednesday night by unknown assailants on Ngong Road near the City Mortuary Roundabout.
“Detectives have forensically reconstructed MP Were’s movements from Parliament to the location of the shooting. This detailed analysis has yielded significant leads, enabling investigators to narrow down to potential suspects,” the agency said in a statement on Friday.
DCI also believes the killing was premeditated, citing the calculated manner in which it was carried out.
An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is scheduled for Monday, May 5, and will be conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor.
While the DCI declined to reveal further details about the suspects, it has appealed to the public for information that could assist in the investigation.
“We urge the public to remain calm and refrain from speculation,” it said.
Detectives from the Homicide and Scenes of Crime units spent yesterday at the scene, reconstructing events to gather evidence that could lead to arrests.
According to preliminary reports, the MP was ambushed by two gunmen on a motorcycle.
The attackers reportedly rode slightly past his car before the armed passenger disembarked, walked back, and opened fire on Were, who was seated in the front passenger seat.
