AA Kenya banks on excellence awards to sensitise on road safety

AA Kenya is now banking on the introduction of an excellence award that seeks to recognize and award companies that demonstrate outstanding commitment to road safety.

Dubbed AA Road Safety Excellence Award, it also seeks to recognize companies that inspire others to prioritise safety initiatives.

In a statement to newsrooms, AA Kenya said the award further aims to help reduce fatalities and severe injuries caused by road crashes.

“The initiative seeks to honour those businesses that go above and beyond to create safer road environments through innovative strategies, comprehensive training programs and impactful safety policies,” read part of the statement.

Eligible nominees range from community leaders to corporate entities, each demonstrating impactful initiatives such as public awareness campaigns, advanced driver training programs, cutting-edge technology integration, and policy advocacy.

“There’s no question that road safety is a shared responsibility. These awards honor those who go above and beyond to keep our roads safe,” said AA Kenya.

A diverse array of categories ensures that road safety contributions across all sectors are recognized.

Categories such as the Community Engagement Award, Road Safety Champion of the Year, and the Driver’s Safety and Wellness Award highlight efforts from grassroots initiatives to corporate-level contributions.

Other categories celebrate SACCOs, educational institutions, motor clubs, digital taxi operators, and even innovations in electric vehicle (EV) safety.

This wide-ranging approach underscores the importance of collective effort in making Kenya’s roads safer.

The road safety movement will culminate in grandeur at the highly anticipated awards gala, scheduled for June 6, 2025.

Submissions are open until May 10, 2025, and nominees are encouraged to demonstrate a track record of success in implementing impactful road safety initiatives.

Supporting evidence, such as photographs and measurable metrics, is vital to showcase the tangible impact of these efforts.

As Kenya grapples with the grim reality of thousands of lives lost annually in traffic incidents, the call for action is louder than ever.

This was an increase of 60 people compared to the same period in 2024.

According to NTSA, since the year begun, some 7,198 Kenyans had been involved in road accident of whom 3,316 had been seriously injured and 2,693 sustaining minor injuries.

In 2024, over 4,000 people died in road accidents which was also an increase of 192 from the 4,090 fatalities recorded in the same period in 2023.
