Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined global leaders and the Catholic faithful in mourning the death of His Holiness Pope Francis, who passed away early Monday morning.
In his message of condolence, the former Head of State described Pope Francis as a remarkable figure who embodied religious unity and tirelessly fostered interfaith harmony.
“Pope Francis was a beacon of peace and a champion of unity among different religions. His efforts to strengthen bonds across faiths will be remembered for generations,” Uhuru said.
Reflecting on the Pope’s historic visit to Kenya in November 2015, the former President recalled the spiritual renewal it sparked among Kenyans and the wider region.

“During that visit, Pope Francis inspired millions, encouraging us to live as one people under God — in peace, harmony, and love, reflecting the true nature of our Creator,” he noted.
Kenyatta concluded his tribute by praying for comfort for Catholics worldwide as they come to terms with the loss of their spiritual leader.
Pope Francis, the first Jesuit and first Latin American pontiff, died aged 88 in Rome, Vatican officials announced on Easter Monday.
“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis,” said Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, during a brief address at the Casa Santa Marta at 9:45 a.m.
