Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is among leaders mourning Pope Francis, who died on Monday, April 21, after battling double pneumonia for over a month.
Kindiki described the Pope’s death as a global loss for the Catholic Church and millions across the world.
“The death of Pope Francis is a monumental loss to Catholic faithfuls around the world,” said Kindiki.
“He inspired millions of people and lived a simple life of grace and service to others,” he added.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi also paid tribute to the Pope, calling him a beacon of faith and compassion.
“A light to the world has dimmed,” said Mudavadi, adding, “Today, we mourn the passing of Pope Francis, a shepherd of hope, peace and unwavering faith. His legacy of compassion and unity will endure across generations.”
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said the Pope’s leadership touched people beyond the Catholic Church.
“His unwavering advocacy for the poor, tireless pursuit of peace and call for unity touched hearts worldwide,” noted Wetang’ula.
He added, “Through his words and actions, he embodied Christ’s teachings of love, mercy and forgiveness, championing the dignity of every human being, regardless of race, nationality or status.”
Wetang’ula also praised the Pope’s theological influence, citing his encyclicals Evangelii Gaudium and Fratelli Tutti.
“Pope Francis reminded us that the Church must be a ‘field hospital’—a place of healing, hope and compassion. His life of service leaves a lasting legacy,” he said.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi referred to the Pope as “a beacon of hope for the Catholic Church” and quoted from Scripture in his tribute.
“Pope Francis has fought the good fight; has finished the race; and has kept the faith,” said Kingi.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said the Pope remained a humble spiritual guide who stood firm on doctrine.
“Pope Francis led the Church on firm doctrine and faith and inspired many people outside the Catholic Church with great love and humility,” said Gachagua.
