Impressive Mutua crowned Audrey Golf champion

Alfred Mutua produced an outstanding round of golf on Easter Friday to clinch the overall title at the second edition of the Audrey Golf Tournament held at the scenic Audrey Golf Resort in Segere, Siaya County.

Mutua carded an impressive 78 gross to emerge as the overall champion in the one-day event that attracted top amateur golfers from across Nyanza region.

His precise swings and consistency on the greens set him apart from a competitive field.

“I stayed focused throughout the round and made sure I avoided risky shots. The course was short but in great condition, and that helped me settle in early,” said Mutua after receiving his trophy.

“It feels great to win on Easter Friday — it’s a day of celebration and this makes it even more special.”

Moses Lekren from Kisumu posted a gross score of 79 to claim the men’s title, while Griffins Owino, also from Siaya, finished as men’s runner-up on 80. Lilian Kong’ani took the ladies’ top honours with a gross score of 88, ahead of Joyce Osike who was runner-up with 89.

In the junior’s category, it was a family affair as Fadhili Mulunda was crowned champion after posting 87 gross, with his younger brother Faraja Mulunda finishing second on 106.

Brenda Aida was recognised for her resilience and passion, bagging the Best Effort award after registering a score of 112. Hidden hole winners included Griffin Owino (Hole 2) and Thomas Odongo (Hole 1), while Hon. Dr. Oburu Odinga won the senior category.

Nyanza Golf Club chairman Thomas Odongo lauded the tournament for inspiring a new generation of golfers in the region.

“This competition is playing a key role in unearthing talent and nurturing golf interest among the youth in Siaya County. The growth is visible,” he noted.

Audrey Golf Resort CEO Vitalis Asewe emphasised the long-term vision of the event.

“Our goal is to make Siaya a golfing hub in Western Kenya. We plan to introduce youth clinics, inter-school events, and training for young professionals,” he said.
