Dutch royal arrive in Kenya for three-day State visit


King Willem Alexander and Queen Máxima have arrived in Kenya for a three-day State Visit.

The Dutch royals were received on Monday evening at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

The King and Queen are accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Caspar Veldkamp, the Minister of Development, Reinette Klever, and the Minister of Defence, Ruben Brekelmans, who will attend various events.

This marks their first state visit to the country following an invitation by President William Ruto.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the visit stating that their majesties will engage in high-level meetings with President Ruto and senior government officials to explore key issues such as trade, investment, climate action, and sustainable development. 

The visit further aims to enhance economic partnerships and deepen bilateral relations in areas including agriculture, water resource management, renewable energy, and technological innovation.

They will also meet with business leaders, civil society representatives, and academic stakeholders to discuss relations and areas of collaboration between the two nations.

Additionally, they will tour select projects that demonstrate the Netherlands’ commitment to Kenya’s progress in areas such as financial inclusion, youth empowerment, and gender equality.
