Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed attempts to eject Chief Justice Martha Koome from office.

Murkomen said Koome was discharging her duties as expected and the government will provide her the support she needs in her office.

Murkomen, who spoke during the commissioning of a new administrative unit at Abogeta Sub-County in Imenti South, Meru, trashed rumours that the executive was behind any plot against Koome’s ouster.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on his two recent visits to Meru, alleged that President William Ruto’s administration was keen to do away with CJ Koome and the Supreme Court judges.

The CS, however said that he recently met the President of the Supreme Court after she raised concerns about her security detail, and the issue was resolved.

“I want to assure you that President William Ruto’s government will not interfere with the independence of the Judiciary, and Madam Chief Justice will continue doing her job, and we will protect the CJ as she discharges her duties.”

Murkomen accused Gachagua of failing to support President Ruto in delivering his pledges to Kenyans.

“Let us give Deputy President Kithure Kindiki the chance to show what he can do,” Murkomen said.

Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi claimed those behind the plot to have the CJ sent home were those not satisfied by the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold his victory over Raila Odinga in the 2022 poll.

He alleged that some dissatisfied people had tried to reach Koome to ensure there was a repeat presidential election, but she stood firm and upheld Ruto’s win.

“Martha Koome stood firm and said she was for justice and cannot reverse someone’s win. It is because she stood firm with William Ruto is the President today,” Kiraitu said.
