Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says he is putting together an elaborate plan to kick President William Ruto out of power in next elections.
Gachagua also challenged ODM leader Raila Odinga to choose the side of history he wishes to be. Speaking at his Karen residence in Nairobi, Gachagua said the opposition will put the Kenya Kwanza government on check.
Gachagua hosted Kamba local vernacular radio stations and declared that Raila was welcome to work with the opposition. But he said the opposition would forge ahead, should Raila stick with President Ruto.
“We do not know what Raila is up to. If he chooses to spoil the good work he has done over the years, it’s upon him. If anything, there is nothing big he will offer to Ruto. Even if he supports Ruto, they will fail. With or without Raila, we are okay. It is upon him to decide which side of history he wishes to be,” said Gachagua.
The former DP said opposition leaders were currently preoccupied with uniting Kenyans ahead of 2027, and designing a political formula that they will present to Kenyans to bring to an end President Ruto’s leadership.
“At the moment, we are not interested in identifying the flag bearer who will face Ruto in 2027. Our priority is to unite the people and ensure more Kenyans register as voters. The only way to liberate the country is getting as many people as possible to vote,” he said.
He denied dismissing as inconsequential the votes from Kamba community. “I did not despise the Kamba community. What is said, and is the naked truth, is that their 1.5 million votes alone cannot guarantee them the presidency. The community should seek alliance with other friendly communities such as Mt Kenya bloc whose people are honest and keepers of promises,” he said,
He dismissed claims by a section of politicians that Kenya Kwanza rigged the presidential election, saying the systems were water-tight against rigging.
“I am a truthful man and I will tell you that the 2022 election was not rigged as claimed by some people. It will also be impossible to rig the forthcoming election because the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has put in place fool-proof systems to make rigging impossible,” he said.
He urged Kenyans to prepare for a major political revolution that will shape the future through a candid re-examination of our situation as a country. “(Retired president) Uhuru Kenyatta is on our side and talking our language. The GenZs are also with us together with pay slip holders. This constituency of voters aggrieved by poor governance will send Ruto home,” he said.
He accused Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua of deploying Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse to sponsor an impeachment motion against him, a move the former DP claims was aimed at sowing seeds of discord between the Akamba and Kikuyu community.
“The Gikuyu Embu Meru Akamba (Gema) outfit will be transformed from a traditional outfit to a formidable political entity that will shake and uproot the current establishment. Our votes are many and we are organised,” said Gachagua.
He downplayed his impeachment, terming it “a blessing in disguise.” “I am even grateful Ruto got me impeached. I have grown more popular than I was and now I have freedom to engage Kenyans and tell them what is bedeviling our country,” he said.
He said he will soon unleash details about corruption networks in government and those behind it. “I have dossiers on SHA, E-citizen, and housing levy which I will soon release. From that, Kenyans will now know what to do with the information.”

Gachagua also waded into Kenya’s diplomatic stature, terming it a ‘systemic failure’ engineered for selfish interests. “Selfish interests have bungled our foreign policy. If we are just in our second year and we have plenty of problems, in ten years we will have no country,” he said.
The former DP said Ruto’s scheme to accommodate several Mt Kenya leaders in his Cabinet and PS positions was politically inconsequential.
