Juja MP George Koimburi has pleaded not guilty to six charges of forgering his academic documents.

Resident Magistrate Nganga Nellianne Wambui has released him on a Sh 200,000 cash bail.

The case, initially withdrawn in 2021, has been revived by the DPP with an additional charge of failing to attend court.

The lawmaker was arraigned at the Kiambu Law Courts Wednesday, a day after he was arrested outside his home.

Koimburi has been charged with forging academic certificates; that is KCSE, a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Academic Excellence certificate from the Department of School of Human Resource Development among other counts.

He was arrested on Tuesday following remarks he made at the weekend at a church service regarding the funding of Raila Odinga’s campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Koimburi was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Kiambu Road for questioning before being transferred to Kamukunji Police Station in Nairobi.

His lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru said Koimburi had declined to record a statement and chose to remain silent.

He was denied bail and spent the night in police custody.

Authorities sought to charge him with cybercrime offenses, accusing him of false publication and offensive conduct.
