Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has defended President William Ruto, faulting government officers who seek to undermine his leadership.
Speaking on Wednesday, January 29, during a meeting with Tharaka Nithi County leaders, Kindiki addressed growing public criticism and internal opposition, describing it as counterproductive to the country’s development.
“Some people are looking for the wrong person if they think I will oppose the President. You cannot be a minister or an officer flying a flag in this government and, at the same time, sabotaging it,” said Kindiki.
The DP also dismissed the idea that Ruto’s presidency should be limited to one term.
“How can that be your motivation as a leader? Even if he doesn’t get a second term he will have transformed the lives of our people in health, economy, education, housing and job creation for our young people, he will have achieved his mission,” he added.
Kindiki drew comparisons with what he termed as former President Mwai Kibaki’s struggles during his first term, arguing that Ruto’s progress has been swift despite similar challenges.
“What Ruto has done in two years, it took Kibaki five years,” claimed Kindiki, adding, “Ruto is on the right track to improving the economy.”
He further called for patience and trust in the Kenya Kwanza administration, noting, “A good transformative leader is not popular all the time, but popularity comes at the right time.”
His remarks come on the back of increased opposition against the current administration, from the clergy, to Gen Zs.
