The serene fairways of Nyanza Golf Club are set to host an exciting installment of the January Babies Monthly Mug on Sunday.
This signature event, celebrating golfers born in January, promises a day of competitive play and camaraderie, with corporate sponsors and golf enthusiasts coming together to make it a memorable occasion.
The 18-hole medal competition is divided into three handicap categories: Division 1 (0–15 for men, 0–22 for ladies), Division 2 (16–28 for men, 23–36 for ladies), and Division 3 (29 and above for men, 37 and above for ladies).
Notably, only participants in Divisions 1 and 2 will contend for the overall winner’s title.
The first group tees off at 7:20 a.m., featuring Selestine I Omari, Lilian Kongani, and C Obare, among others. The spotlight is on Kongani, an enthusiastic January baby and key member of the tournament’s organizing team.
“This is not just a competition; it’s a celebration of our love for golf and our collective efforts to make Nyanza Golf Club a hub for golfers in the region,” she remarked during the final preparations.
With staggered tee times, notable names like A Patel, BV Patel, and Melody U are expected to showcase their skills in the early groups.
The mid-morning slots, including prominent players such as IS Ogejo and J Osike, promise intense competition. The final group at 12:10 p.m., led by R Odhiambo, M Nyamari, and N Odhiambo, will close the day’s action on the course.
This year’s event is buoyed by generous support from a diverse lineup of sponsors: Shammah Creations, Alhusnain, Kisumu Smiles, Dr. Rakewa Dental, DSTV, Green Wells Energy/Stonefield, and IBS Packprint Limited.
Their involvement underscores the growing appeal of the January Babies Monthly Mug as a premier local golf event.

With the backing of our sponsors and the dedication of our members, Nyanza Golf Club is positioning itself not only as a national golfing destination but also as a key player in the East African golf circuit,” he said.
In addition to the overall and gross winners, prizes will be awarded across various categories, including divisional winners, longest drive, and nearest to the pin.
